Mobile Update

Attempting an awesome update from my Nexus One phone. The Android 2.2 update has made my phone infinitely more useful. I thank my lucky stars I convinced AT&T to let me out of my contract before they hiked up their “early termination fee”. Thanks to the nice person that bought my iPhone 3g off of Craigslist.

Presonus Firewire on Windows 7

So I’ve really been digging Windows 7, but my Presonus Firestudio Project had been giving me all kinds of grief. I’ve generally allways had to do a lot of tweaking with my specialty audio hardware to get it to run acceptably, especially my old Firepod, but this was really driving me crazy. Presonus now has the “Universal Control” app that drives their Firestudio hardware, and it installed fine under Windows 7, but every time I tried to connect the Firestudio it would totally freeze up. It turns out that the ...

Retube a guitar amp in Chicago

It is a little more difficult than I thought to find a place to change and bias the tubes in my guitar amp. I’m in Chicago so I figured a quick search of “tube amp repair chicago” would have more recognizable results. Chicago Guitar and Amplifier looks like it’s about my speed but their website says that amp repair has a 1-3 week waiting period. Shuh! I need to rock out now! Anybody have any recommendations? My buddy Ernie recommended Deltronics which looks cool, but it’s only open weekdays 10am ...

Switching from Winamp to Songbird?

Open source software is really coming along these days, and it’s awesome when it gets good enough to become my default app for a common task like mp3 playing. I’ve been a loyal winamp user since 1998 and I never thought I would make the switch, but just recently I’ve been trying Songbird and so far I’m impressed. This sucker can index a HUGE mp3 collection in record time, and it has an adequate collection of plug-ins.

Cool LED circuit

I’ve been playing around with LEDs recently and I’m using the schematics from this page to basically use a 555 IC to make a kick-ass moving LED effect for the robot costume.
