Presonus Firewire on Windows 7

Problems with you Presonus firewire on Windows 7

Problems with your Presonus firewire device on Windows 7? Pick the legacy firewire driver.

So I’ve really been digging Windows 7, but my Presonus Firestudio Project had been giving me all kinds of grief. I’ve generally allways had to do a lot of tweaking with my specialty audio hardware to get it to run acceptably, especially my old Firepod, but this was really driving me crazy. Presonus now has the “Universal Control” app that drives their Firestudio hardware, and it installed fine under Windows 7, but every time I tried to connect the Firestudio it would totally freeze up. It turns out that the Presonus hardware doesn’t play nice with Windows 7 1394 firewire drivers. I actually saw this suggestion for a completely different piece of hardware, so the Win 7 firewire drivers might not quite be ready for prime time. All you have to do is manually pick the “legacy” firewire drivers and you are good to go. I didn’t even have to restart my box for everything to work!

1. Just go to Device Manager, find your IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers, right click and select Update Driver Software…step1
2. On the next dialogue box pick “Browse my computer for driver software”
3. Now choose “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”
4. On the final screen you should see at least one 1394 driver that has “(legacy)” at the end of the name. Select that one, hit next, and you should be ready to start using your pro-audio gear without even restarting your computer.

Utilizei o driver original do CD de instalaçãoe consegui que a Firestudio funcionasse perfeitamente. Apesar do software da interface de mixagem nao funcionar o driver toca todas a entradas e saidas da placa.

I’m pretty much impressed with the stability of Windows 7. It is better than windows Vista which hogs my memory and cpu..~-
